Tickled Pink Sophisticated Gifts
Wondering what the latest buzz is about in Lumina Station’s newest shopping extravaganza? Step inside of Tickled Pink and experience a world of style, talent, beauty, sophistication and one of the best places in town to find the perfect gift.
Tickled Pink is a collection of unique retail concepts providing shoppers with an upscale shopping experience, alternative to mainstream options. The 3,300 square foot store boasts over 50 individual spaces where local and regional artists, artisans, designers and retail entrepreneurs are able to display and sell their own work and products.
Because of the large number of spaces available to independent merchants, Tickled Pink is able to offer a variety of different items. Although the focus of the store is the sophisticated shopper, products range from inexpensive or small to high quality, designer or upscale, with many options in between. Whether you’re looking to bring home a little surprise for your loved one, buy a Christmas, wedding, birthday or baby-shower gift or outfit your wardrobe in one-of-a-kind vintage or locally designed clothing, Tickled Pink has something for all ages and styles.
The first time you enter the store won’t be enough to fully take in the diversity and talent showcased there. With an assortment of different types of jewelry, home accents, local art and photography, greeting cards, redesigned and shabby chic furniture, a variety of home accents, different types of apparel including vintage, antiques, hand bags, gourmet candy and more, your senses become overwhelmed from the moment you enter.
Many of the vendors are devoted to selling their own hand-crafted work while others resell hard-to-find, well-known and designer pieces. Some vendors sell their products elsewhere locally and regionally, and others have used Tickled Pink to put their entrepreneur skills to work for the first time.
Owners, Shanda and Steve West have been thrilled about the response since the doors opened on November 1, 2011. The couple has had an entrepreneurial spirit for many years, running several different businesses in the past. Shanda heads the store full time and enjoys the experience she has had meeting new people and supporting local business. “My heart is really in showcasing all the gifts and talents of others in Wilmington and making the local community aware of that,” She said.
After they moved here in 2007 from Winston, Shanda started a small service company and was able to grow it into a successful and thriving business, when she decided she was ready for a change. The idea for the store came about from her love for shopping and her initial interest in opening a boutique for shoes. “I quickly realized there was much more to offer Wilmington than shoes,” she mentioned. After looking at Lumina Station and realizing the space was open, Shanda and Steve approached them with the concept. “Lumina Station was very supportive and encouraging of the idea,” Shanda said, “Which confirmed we were doing the right thing.”
The importance of supporting local business was always a concern of Shanda’s but she wanted to take it a step further and support local charities as well. This is where the notion of the ‘Cause Flare’ was developed, a wall space in the store devoted to a different cause each month.
Next time you’re out and about or looking for unique gift ideas, come by Lumina Station and take a look at what Tickled Pink has on its shelves.
